Technology is essential to everyday life and ‘digital thinking’ is a vital skill when it comes to participating in an increasingly digital world. Computing at St Giles’ is developed to equip our children with the skills, knowledge and understanding of computing that they will build on throughout the rest of their lives. EYFS follow the ‘iLearn2’ scheme to support planning and provision of Computing. Key Stage One follow the ‘Teach Computing’ planning, created by the National Centre for Computing Education, to support  Computing lessons.

At St Giles’ ICT is used throughout the curriculum to support and enrich the children’s learning. Each classroom in the school contains an interactive whiteboard which supports the curriculum and allows demonstration of software and procedures. Children have access to a range of digital equipment including cameras, iPads and laptops. Programmable devices such as Beebots are also included as part of Maths, Science and Geography related tasks.

Children use search engines to research information about their topics, using iPads to access various websites using QR codes and selecting and evaluating the information they find. They also use iPads for consolidation activities across the curriculum, for example in Maths using a variety of online games and activities. The children are also given the opportunities to create and edit digital content such as photographs and videos using a range of software.

The school has a strict E-Safety policy to protect all those who access the internet whilst on the school site, and teaches children to remain safe within other environments outside the school when using technology. We also hold regular parent workshops about how to keep your children safe online and regular assemblies for children on e-safety as part of our Anti-bullying provision.
